Happy Birthday, Jovonna.  Hope your day was wonderful



 
I was worried about tonight, I'd never been to Jenne Rd and sat around this table with Tom's being present.  Would his absence be intolerable?  But he was there.  How could he not have been?  3 out of 4 children, 3 out of 5 grandchildren, spouses, ex  spouses, brothers and sisters and friends from afar.  Kevin and I were so impressed by the maps of peoples' journeys so clear in faces in this room, all of them touched by one man, but all of them  touched by several others. Lives that have come together, bumped in meaningful ways, made new turns, and bumped into the next. 

This was a somber occasion, or was it?   We  all  love and honor Tom. And there was love, honor and joy in that room  tonight.  Lots of laughter, lots of warmth, and the desire to sit next to one another.  

I am bringing my camera tomorrow.  I usually don't to this kind of event, but I think it will be important to document.  Love is powerful.

August 21, 2026  In 1988 I went through a crazy medical emergency.  It took almost a year for it to come to a place where it was diagnosed and could be treated, which it was, initially under emergency conditions.  This seems to be the way my body operates.  When I went through that experience I suffered from extreme fear of doctors and the medical world and had to put my faith in my Mother and my then therapist's judgement and literally do what they said at the ripe old age of 35.   I worked hard to get beyond that fear and anxiety and through childhood medical trauma.  I was successful because of the work I was doing with my therapist and because the medical world worked hard at getting me to trust them.   Now we speed ahead almost 40 years and I find the old trauma and old anxiety banging around loudly.  That is because the medical system itself has stopped being client centered.  I am due to have surgery on Tuesday and the exact ...

June 1, 2026 OK, I'm not the best photographer coming out of anesthesia, but I actually look ok for someone who just had control, return, delete pushed on her heart.   All went well.   I'm home and will be back to my regular life tomorrow. photo by David
