November 11, 2025
In 1985, on this day, I received a phone call from Associated Press.  I remember there was sloppy snow coming out of clouds.  I asked, "Why are you calling me, it's not my birthday, it's Jimmy's?"  I was just woken from a deep sleep and all I knew was it was my partner in crime's birthday.  What the wanted was to interview me for an article on The Literacy Project, which appeared on page 50 something of the Sunday times that week.  It was definitely something to check off from the big list.  Here we are 40 years later, it's snowing a little, TLP is still thriving, but we lost Jimmy along the way.  Happy Birthday, Jim.

Nov. 11th I think is when the Fall palette changes to dark reds, Google is telling me names like, currant, blood, berry, I was thinking, wine, magenta, burgundy, but who knows.  I do know that I love these colors, but today in the snow they just depressing.

New England weather is just kind of crazy and it's why everyone is always complaining about it.   Nothing stuck here.  I looked for a snowbow in several places, to no avail.  But it was a nice simple ride to the rookery and over the hill to say hi to the gang.

Then I met Jo for some lunch and made a plan on how to get my windows ready for replacement.   I realized I had no ability to do any linear thinking at all and I needed help preparing.  So Jo helped.

Then to the doctor's where they finally scheduled a sonogram for my leg.  2 years after my first visit they order the sonogram.  I guess enough stuff was checked off the insurance list to make it doable.

Made a lentil soup.  It was good.  Touched base with lots of loved ones.   And really happy I get to swim tomorrow.

OK 5 things I'm grateful for today:

1) The use of Gary's camera.

2) So many people care about me.

3) The color purple

4) The fact that my father made it home from the war in one physical piece.  He suffered from it and it clearly was a variable in his mental health, but he was around long enough to be my Dad for 18 years.

5) The will to get up and try again.
