Happy Birthday Corrigan Vaughan
I remember where I was 40 years ago.

Di and I ran away to the Clark Museum today on this incredibly lovely day.  It was a beautiful ride over to the Berkshires with a perfect temperature.   We found the place because it almost bites you in the face if your not careful, parking was close, and off to the new exhibit we went.

25 women artists, including Vanessa Bell, who painted between 1885 and 1930 or so.  Historically it was interesting and the painting collection was superb.   There was a 3 generation family walking around, Dad was pushing 9 mth old baby around and it so reminded me of bringing EJ to galleries before they were walking.  I warned the father that he might be creating another artist who wants to go to a very expensive college someday.  Everyone laughed.

Di had packed a picnic and we just brought it to the courtyard of the museum and had a very nice lunch and did not pay museum cafe prices.  I also think it may have tasted better.

We sat in the Impressionists room, surrounded by the artists of my early years.   The color, the light, the compassion in eyes always takes me back to those early years.   I try to look at them with new eyes, but all my soul comes rushing in, and I know my beginnings.

Then we drove back over the mountains and through the early fall colors and took in a few vistas.   Away, together, in a short common pleasant journey.  I am impressed that my body did as well as it did.  Last Friday I almost canceled because I thought I'd not be able to walk the museum.  But I managed.  I was really stiff when I got out of the car, and I took a nap before I went to the rookery.

Yup, there is food in here.   She is happy in her pre-migration home.  I couldn't figure out if she actually caught a small fish or a frog, but she gulped something down.

And the wood ducks are beginning to get their colors.   They are speckled and it is hard to believe their coloring will be so formal soon, so uniform.  Will they winter in Sherry's backyard this year?  Maybe.

I wrote two poems at Clark today while Di walked a little further than I did.  It was a very sweet day.  Now I'm going to have a very sweet sleep.
