Ducks have taken over, which means there is enough shallow water to sustain them. How many broods does a wood duck have in a summer?
I think I've said this before, but my experience documenting the rookery did not only provide me with a laboratory and a place to meditate, but it gave me a neighborhood, too. This morning I woke up to a text telling me there was a dozen eggs waiting for me at the mailbox of the farm. These eggs are beautiful. I got out of bed, got dressed and drove on up.
It actually was good for me. It felt like a run away day which I seemed to have needed more often this summer.
Drove EJ back to Northfield, we had a good conversation on the way home. Next week they will be back at Bard and back at circus which is very cool. 3 more months and they will be a graduate and they can start anew. I think that Bard has not been a good place administratively, (except there is one Dean who has been really helpful), but I think educationally, intellectually it has allowed them to do some important work. I think learning Ancient Greek is important work.
On the way back to my house I decided to go look at Just Roots, the local community garden. It's lovely at the moment. I took a few photos and listened for hawks and went on home to make that fresh omelet.
It was great; feta and garlic omelet and a peach.
If it weren't for allergies, oh and the potential hostile take over in an American city, today would be an example of a perfect day. I actually think I can hold all of those things together at the moment. Waking up dreading the world has been both common and difficult this week, but having friends gift you with fresh eggs as you wake up helps a whole lot. And doing something kind and peaceful with people you love allows the balance to shift to good. I love my friends.
