Morning started with sharing her backyard with me.  Her backyard is the rookery.  She was visited by turkeys.  Yay.  And apparently the red winged blackbirds are home.  I'll go up tomorrow to see them.  Today I worked on my blog post for Queens Narrative.   Check them out.  There's some interesting writing and ideas on the blog.

I didn't take any photos today.  Not sure why except nothing moved me to shoot.  So tonight I will post a poem.

Open Your Heart Wider

Witnessing tears of good-bye;

the release of intensity

letting up a little

he asks for blue cheese and wings,

although we all know he can’t eat them

we say yes and create a wings party

and find the movie they want to watch.

The edges of life

are blurred.

Time has lost its meaning,

its not the factor that

keeps mass in place,

working,

moving.

No longer keeps meaningful physical

spaces of movement confined.

It has slipped into

a fourth dimension

fallen away

and made room for

a new space to crawl

through to our plain.

we slide through what exists

even if we don’t always

understand, don’t always

make sense of it.

What is important?

Love is

Music is

Touch is.

Storytelling.

Open your heart wider

is the advice I’m given

by the friend who does

this often.

Open your heart wider.

Make room for all

of the feelings that are

about to fill this room

incorporate all of the power

produced by the expanse.

Open you heart wider

Even the dog knows all these

feelings are acceptable

wanted experiences.

What allows the time to

disappear, wobble,

another world to

slide into the corner?

What allows the heart

to open even wider?

The edges to stretch?

The fourth dimension needs

room, allow it to enter.

Like the birth canal, it will happen

on its own.

Open your heart wider

Let the fear glide away

Witness the beyond.

I’ve been asked to write about the power of writing while healing from trauma.  It’s seems such a natural thing for me to write about.  I’ve been teaching writing to marginalized groups for 40 years and I have gone on my own writing journey for even longer.  But it’s difficult to articulate exactly what the process of writing does, how it develops voice, how it impacts confidence, how the creation of narrative in whatever form helps one understand one’s own feelings.  But I have seen it happen numerous times and I have watched people grow and move out of self destructive patterns by learning how to express themselves and their thoughts.

That was the paragraph that i used to focus my blog post but then decided it was not necessary, but I didn't want to throw it away.  So there it is.  LOL
