Saturday with birds and EJ

selfies by EJ

EJ and I had lunch with Herb today and then we drove around and listened to political music and photographed big birds.  It has been a long time since I got to do all my favorite things at once,  EJ, music, photography and birds.  Pretty good score.

And lunch with Herb just made it even better,   My brother, Paul, took a photo of EJ sliding down a bright red slide when they were almost two.   Herb had a blow up of that photo on his office door for years.  Today he was so pleased to see that joyous smile he doesn't get see as often as he used to.   When EJ was about 5 or 6 they drew a picture for MLK Day that Herb used as the front of the program for years.  He was another person in my life who tried to be a good Uncle to EJ.  I love seeing long standing special bonds.  Thank you, Herb, for a lovely lunch.

Really was a good day for big bird photos.  I think they know when a storm is coming and they get out and catch food .  It's also eagle mating season, and clearly these red tails were up to no good.

Gary told me to go look at  the Connecticut this morning because of the ice formations.  It was so cloudy that everything was black and white and there was very little contrast.  The people walking on the ice seemed to be defying gravity.  I would not believe the river was actually frozen.

These two were on top of a tree above someone's driveway.  I pulled up there and no one was home, so I took advantage and shot a lot of pictures.
Always makes EJ look at me askance.

I don't think I learned anything special today, but I felt comfortably alive.  I also missed people today.   I really do wish one could have a teleport.  Today I would've sat in Jason's kitchen and had a cup of tea, checking in on him.

After I dropped EJ back at home, I bought enough food for the next  2 days, came home, turned the heat up and was glad I have a home.
