January 25, 2026 The snow started before 10 a.m. and the temperature is still 5.  Why doesn't the snow know it is too cold for it to snow?  Alright it has been snowing for 9 and a half hours and I believe we have 10 inches or so.  I went out at five to learn to use the electric shovel that Gary brought me.  It's pretty funky.  I didn't get pics, I will when I go out next. Just as I went out Brian came with the plow.  He did a quick run through to stay in front of it.  Said we are expecting 20 inches before morning.   This really is an old fashion storm.  I've felt very calmed by it because there has been no howling winds. It's been kind of what the doctor ordered. Jay and I moved to Greenfield in August of 1978.  The first time he wanted to go to Maine to visit Mimi I was afraid for him to leave me in the house alone.   I had to figure out strategies for how to be alone in that house.   We had upstairs neighbors ...

January 24, 2026 The rookery at 10:34 a.m.  7 degrees.   Otters have been playing at the rookery. Arrived to at least 20 bluebirds and otter holes and tracks. What a wonderful surprise. The car is still inspected and insured in Annie's name so I got to have a great ride today.  At first I went up to the  rookery and tried to remember how to just sit there and write. How terribly lovely to attempt  it.  I lasted  maybe 25 minutes, but  it was enough time to track the otters.   Did not see any.   They were not far away though.  The tracks were fresh.   Driving over to Bardswell Ferry I spotted a very big hawk.  I think its a red tailed, but I can't be sure.  There are no bars on his tail.  He was so still the entire time I  was watching I  began to believe he was snow on a broken limb, but he really is a hawk.   The  temperature did not rise above 11  while I was up...

January 23, 2026 David picked me up today and brought me on an errand run so I could get everything done before the storm.  In the middle  of the errands we went to  the Canal and got to watch the swans aswimming.  Brought my entire system down to where it belonged. Can't wait to be able to do this  on my own.  Should be able to by Wednesday.   So  nice. Thank you, Annie.   We got everything I need for food while I get snowed in. I have 2 desires  for using my snow days.  I'm going to do some visual art and I am going  to  start up on my poetry manuscript again.  I am centering my time for a couple days on creative pursuits. I am stating that as  an intentional  goal.   I have a car in my driveway.  I have a sweet car in my driveway.  It won't be mine or legal probably until Wednesday, but it is here in my driveway.  So nice.   Over the past week I have thought of a fe...

photo by Charmae  January 22, 2026 Happy Birthday my  dear friend, Diane. I love how  our lives have twisted together for the past 50 years.  We've been friends twice as long as EJ has been alive.  I'm having such an inspiring time watching you engross yourself  into print making and can't wait to watch the next year.  Thank you so much for being there for me.  I love you.       This day was thwarted and as I look at the events that have to happen in the next  48 hours, I'm pretty convinced that my car will not be registered until maybe, Tuesday.  Between  the coordination of  gifts and the slow working gears of the car world, it's still a few days away. But I am still in awe of the response to Kevin's  gofundme, and the high from that will hold me for a long time. Thank you,  again friends.  The other coordination activity that is being watched carefully is whether EJ's friends will make...

photo by Nash January 21, 2026 I saw a set of twins the other day who were 6 months old and their eyes were entirely different blue greys. I got the feeling that one would have brown eyes in another month or so while his brother would stay blue gray. I don't think I've ever known truly what color eyes EJ has. His friend Nash sent me this last night and I felt it was such a perfect photo of my very very good pal and his perfect eyes. . This garage is gone, it is now a chicken coop on Chapman St.  This was taken a year ago.  Kinda took one just like it Monday.   This morning in was -4  when I got out of bed.   I had  a ride  to the Y, so I got dressed and I put on my heavy corduroy pants because I knew they'd be warm.  I got them in March last year and it never got cold enough to wear them.  So I was very happy to put them on today.   Out I went into the weather to jump in Emily's Jeep and immediately cold wind and snow ...

January 20, 2026 Within the 1st half hour  of this day I broke a favorite bowl and a tooth.  Let me tell you about the bowl, I have no idea  how I hit it off the shelf, but I did and I sent all of my bracelets falling to the ground.  It also splintered all over my bare feet sitting there at the bathroom door.   I bought this bowl in January of 1991 in Chinatown San Francisco.  I had flown with my friend Mike to have a kind of break together to examine if we wanted to be in a relationship.  Just prior to our leaving, besides Bush bombing Iraq, Mike found  out the woman he was trying to leave had  breast cancer.  So what I learned in California was that he  wasn't going  anywhere, that he could not leave her at this juncture and as much as I wanted to fault him for that, I couldn't.  We returned to NYC 10 days later, not an item.  We went to Grand Central Station together, he would board a train up the Hudson and m...

January 19, 2026 A few more inches during the night and SUN And another day at home checking things off the list. Beautiful sun, beautiful   blue.   photo by Karen I spent most of the day feeling just like Ethan.   So full of a glee.   Around four Di and EJ picked me up and took me to the market and I got some food for the week.  My driveway is still not plowed, but I think tomorrow I'll get to that and that more things will keep me busy and I will get closer to my goals.  And soon I will be able to go see my rookery.   I'm aiming for Friday, but we'll see.   I read through more Jay poems today.  They are really powerful.  I think that it might be interesting to do an audio book of them with T. reading.  I'm going to ask Paul R. how to do that.   I am fascinated by these storms and really interested in finding out how they do impact our technology.  I just keep thinking that one good stor...
