September 23, 2026 Adolescence at its finest Big birds ruled the flats today.  There were a lot of geese and ducks, but the egret, heron and eagle kept me busy.   I hung out with EJ while he got an allergy shot today and afterwards he went to work on the new coop and I went to the Canal.  I'm really glad I did today.  I was a little tired, but I enjoyed myself with the camera which hasn't been true in a while.    Tomorrow I bring my car for an oil change.  It's the first one since I got the car in February.  I've driven 3000 in 6  months, I have obviously not been my most active self this year.   I am so amazed at how really sick I was and in how many little ways it showed itself.   Did I write about not wanting Patrick to go back to Nantucket this year?  To have someone take responsibility for your life, literally, the way he did in August is extremely profound.  Although I don't feel any different towards...

September 22, 2026 I'm sorry I didn't go out and actually photograph the sunset, it was lovely Happy Birthday, Susie. Happy Birthday, Janice. My day was pretty full again and I got it reinforced that I have to give myself time to heal.  I started physical therapy with Robin which makes me feel more secure.   EJ did some shopping and brought my quilt downstairs for me.  Robin also told me  not to climb the stairs a lot for a while and to stay downstairs.    So I will and I  will  go to the Y and I will listen to my body.   Tonight I'm going to sleep.      Good night, moon.

September 21, 2026 Happy Birthday, Marcie Reed Whiton Hope your day was fun. Mine was full, but I'm not sure fun. This is a second harvest of milkweed pods.  I was shocked this morning when I went out to get in the car and all of these flowers were glowing in the sun at noon.  I didn't look for monarchs.  Tomorrow. It was over a year ago that my first attempt at eye surgery was scheduled. Since then it has been canceled three times.  The last time was when i went into Afib in March.  I saw the eye surgeon for the first time in 7 months.  He is the first doctor to acknowledge that the last 7 months had been too much.  He would not reschedule the surgery for early Winter and suggested we reconvene in January.  I'm worried that by the time I actually get to it, my vision will have been effected too much. So after 2 hours of waiting and being examined and being rejected I left there feeling both validated and pushed away in the same moment. ...

9/20/2025 September 20, 2026 It poured all day and I'm not sure if it reached 60.  I was cold and sluggish.  I went and ate a sandwich uptown, but I didn't stay long,  I almost read an entire book. Patrick hung out early evening and EJ and Nash came by for a bit.  EJ made grape juice from his concord grape vines.  Patrick and I drank a little glass of it; it was like a little heaven.  Really good, not too sweet, and little tangy, but not at all dry.  A bright moment in a gloomy day.

September 19, 2026 Happy Birthday, Kora J Skeele, my beautiful, in many ways, goddaughter. I love you. I have not felt well all day.  I think my system is very delicate at the moment.  Not sure if it is balancing properly, feels too uneasy. Diane, Patrick and I went to a reading and heard Edite read.  She will always be my favorite.  It was a good reading and I am glad we went, but there was no way I could be social afterwards.  Actually, Patrick took my arm and walked to the car with us and I was grateful.  I was a little unbalanced.  Let's hope I sleep well tonight.

September 18, 2026 I was very tired today.    I went to the Y and then to the Coop for the puzzles. Then I slept for over 2 hours.  I woke up and couldn't shake myself out of a dream.   I drove up to the rookery.  It was 74 and a little humid and absolutely eventless,  only the wood duck couple were around.  I took a few photos and didn't realize I was shooting in monochrome. Once I'd taken a few photos of the autumn olive trees I noticed the lack of red and looked at what I was doing.   I think color maybe necessary with these.   These trees are ready for harvest.  They were stunning in the direct sun.   I still have to chose 3 photos to give to Jan.  Which ones should I chose? Gregg brought Indian food over and we had a really good catch up.  He told me some people thought I died.  Nope, not yet.  10 more years, at least.   It feels so good to be back in the water, but it does tire...

September 17, 2026 Happy Birthday, Donny McAulay For the  past few weeks EJ has been being my personal part time chef.  There could be nothing better.  He has kept me in special sides like cucumber sesame salad and a quinoa salad with chick peas to die for.  This omelet is all the leftover fresh mushrooms and cheese.  YUM Loren McGrail  https://lorenmcgrail.substack.com/p/blueberry-barrens-of-maine?r=1frix9&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email Take a look at Loren's substack.

September 16,  2026 Happy Birthday, Mattie. And yay, the  pool, I'm so happy. Rookery was 70 at 6 pm tonight.  Once again, I drove up and I had not checked my battery, so no photos.  No big birds.  No four legged animals. But it doesn't matter cause  I was in the pool today with my friends.

September 15, 2026 Happy Birthday, Collin. A cone of pink oyster mushrooms, so tasty in  my dinner tonight. Lunch with David and my usual at Wild Roots, so delicious.   And perfect weather to go along with it.  And  great company.   Off to the doctor's with my questions which all got answered.  There seems to be no damage done to the kidney.  The function of the left kidney has  returned. I was given the  ok to go back to the Y tomorrow, which improved my mood exponentially.  Tomorrow I go back to my gang.  So happy. EJ made me a great dinner and I learned more about the workings of the diabetes and the kidney issues.  They  may change some of my meds, but it is not as drastic a change as I imagined.   T. brought us fresh mushrooms, both pink oyster and coral, they are so beautiful.   EJ fried them up in butter, salt, pepper and garlic and added them to sliced onion and very thin slices  ...

September 14, 2026 He flew so close to me, I thought he was going to go for my camera. I felt up to writing by the canal today.  I didn't get a lot of writing done, but I was very happy just bird watching.  That's the first eagle flying photo I've gotten in over a year.  Remember in 23 I spent all that time searching down the perfect eagle photo.   There were three heron in the canal today.  The first  one I saw flew away with 100 ducks when the eagle came out of no where.  I'm sure he landed in one of the islands of reeds by the edge of the road and I just couldn't see him from the car.  I'm not quite strong enough to get out of the car and walk a little, but  I moseyed on down and saw 2 more.  This one was chased away by the two swans.  They were bullies,  I'm very glad to be seeing a doctor tomorrow and having the opportunity to ask some important questions.  I'm so worried about not  being allowed back into t...

September 12, 2026 EJ, Nash, Diane and I had dinner together tonight.  Delicious. My new want is to turn my dining room into a salon.  I need  to move the eating area out of my bedroom, although tonight it was quite sweet to be here with the gang.  EJ and Nash had gone to the fair.  I really want to go see the animals.  Oh, how excited I used to be for the Fair.  Is this another marker of my aging?   Not really fair of me to use the gathering as a photo shoot especially when I'm not even using a real camera, but I couldn't resist.  They are both so cute.    Maybe tomorrow i will have a real Sunday and get some real photos taken.  I was asked to put 3 or 4 pictures in a LAVA show at the Court House in Oct.   I'll try to chose them tomorrow.
