I've been thinking a lot about the winding road of life. I've been thinking of lots of silly stories recently. I'm going to try my hand at 100 word stories. I think it's a perfect format for some of my stories. EJ used to want me to write the Geoff and Lindy stories and I think I'm going to try to write a couple as 100 word stories and see if they work better in that format or children's book format.
I used to walk everywhere in Greenfield. I wouldn't take the car out for a couple days. I walked to work, I walked downtown, I thought I owned the streets. In the days when I would have all of the Tilton kids and all of the Vaughan kids with me we would walk to the movie theater on a Friday night and sing and laugh. We did own those streets in many ways.
Once we were passing the Do-jon on Federal St. and the garage door was open. David's stingray Corvette was there and Ember was thrilled. I walked down the driveway with that crew of kids and asked David if Ember could see the car.
He immediately brought him to the car and let him sit in the driver's seat and told him all about it. He was so excited, you would have thought we'd gone to some great place. We hadn't, but I knew we belonged to a community and part of that community for me was spaces owned by friends all the way down the street. We could walk down and say hi, wave, and find ourselves at the movie theater with a box of popcorn.
Also, those kids were all so well behaved for me. All of my own nephews and nieces and my friends' kids who were of similiar ages, they just were polite and fun and smart.
Once we all went to the Potholes and hung out and then to the ice cream place in Shelburne. Jordan wasn't 2 yet, Devin and Ember were 10, 11? The guy who ran the ice cream counter was so impressed he gave me a half gallon of ice cream to take home with us and made sure he explained to those kids why. I was so proud of them. Six kids between 2 and 11 enjoying themselves and being polite.
Clara came over and took me food shopping today. Afterwards we went to the rookery. It was a beautiful day, it even was a little warmer and the sky was actually blue. There were a lot of songbirds at the house, but we only saw the red tailed. It kind of looked like the tundra up there.
